The PC Party has learned of another environmental time bomb waiting to ignite because of the mismanagement of the Sask Party Government and the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation.
Just like the 1,000,000 tire pile PC candidate for Wood River, Brian Archer, brought to the public’s attention in Assiniboia, sources have revealed to the PC Party another 300,000 tire pile. This environmental bomb is sitting in a farmer’s field north of Waseca, Saskatchewan. Like the Assiniboia tires, the environmental fees have been paid. Where has the money gone? Why have the tires not been processed long ago?
The PC Party is calling on the Premier to bypass his incompetent Environment Minister and terminate the tire recycling contract of the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation for failure to protect the environment. The Premier should order the immediate clean up of both the Assiniboia and Waseca sites by a qualified Saskatchewan processor. The Government should provide a loan to the processor to finance the processing of these environmental dangers until the recycled products can be sold in the market.
The whole concept of environmental stewardship is at risk if the government does not demonstrate leadership on this issue. The PC Party opposition will push environmental responsibility to a reasonable conclusion for taxpayers. In that regard, the PC Party believes that the Chairman of the SSTC board, who is from Manitoba, should resign and the Executive Director should be dismissed for gross negligence of public safety.
