Saskatoon, SK–Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan Leader Rose Buscholl is calling for a full independent forensic audit of “the books” after news broke earlier in the week of the Scott Moe government running up yet another deficit.
“This Saskatchewan Party government has magically gone from a $1 Billion surplus projection to a $1 Billion deficit in less than a year,” stated Buscholl. “It doesn’t take a certified accountant to assume things are not right….open up the books!”
Through orders-in-council, the Government of Saskatchewan has recently authorized $757,495,000 in additional funding across several ministries. What specifically the money is going to is difficult to parse from publicly available, online information contained within the orders, also called special warrants, which outline the dollar amount and what ministry will receive the money. Certain requisitions like There is an unexplained $12 million for “out-of-province” have left most baffled.
“This spending has simple gotten out of control and is likely bankrupting the province,” Buscholl asserts. “Folks would like to know their money is being well cared for. The Moe government can do this by calling for an independent audit to show they are being good stewards. But we know they won’t, so it is up to the next government to show some much-needed accountability.”
