Regina, SK– Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan Leader Rose Buscholl is calling for yet another Saskatchewan Party minister to resign. This time it’s Minister of Education Jeremy Cockrill. The Minister is currently being investigated for a second time by the Saskatchewan Conflict of Interest Commissioner (COIC).
“This is starting to seem like a daily occurrence by now,” stated Buscholl who called for Social Services Minister Gene Makowsky to step down on Tuesday and Minister Jeremy Harrison to do the same just yesterday. “But this just goes to show what kind of people are currently running our government here in the province.”
Minister of Education Jeremy Cockrill’s investment in two helium companies is under scrutiny following news of a second investigation by Saskatchewan’s conflict of interest commissioner (COIC) into the first-term MLA. Already under investigation for government contracts involving his family business, Cockrill is now being investigated for his investments.
According to Mr. Cockrill’s 2022 disclosure, he invested in Helium Evolution and Royal Helium while a member of cabinet. These particular investments raise questions given government initiatives to develop Saskatchewan’s helium industry, as well as ongoing government contracts with these companies. The Minister denies the allegations.
“We are almost at the numbing stage,” continued Buscholl, “where there is just so much corruption that we start tuning out. But there is an election around the corner. Instead of tuning out, this time lets come together and throw the bums out!”
