Regina, SK-The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan Rose Buscholl is demanding Premier Scott Moe answer questions raised by the $10million lawsuit filed against the province by Saskatchewan tire recycler Shercom.
“A lawsuit filed against this government for breach of contract is just another black eye for the Premier and the province as a whole,” mused Buscholl. “How many black eyes is this now for them? I have seriously lost count.”
The lawsuit states Shercom Industries is seeking at least $10 million in damages against the Government of Saskatchewan, the Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan (TSS), a non-profit provincial regulator, and its chief executive officer Stevyn Arnt. It argues Shercom was unfairly excluded from a request for proposals to award a second tire recycler in Saskatchewan, and argues negotiations were “predetermined and locked into awarding” services to an American based company instead.
The lawsuit also seeks damages against Arnt for a series of claims and comments he’s allegedly made over the last two years, which Shercom argues are false statements that caused economic harms meant to shutter the company.
“Ultimately the buck stops with the Premier,” Buscholl said. “This is not just a TSS or its CEO problem, it’s a governance problem that Premier Moe and his people have botched and outright manipulated for years. He really needs to come out of the protective bunker he is currently hiding in and address this very serious issue. That $10million is public money of course…..our money.”
